On November 22, 2002 Frances Fierst, Eric Tirnauer and I climbed Mt. Missouri.  To avoid a 3 mile approach hike in 1-2 feet of snow, we 4 wheeled in.  Very exciting.  Good thing we drove it, because the climb itself was tiring. The driving wasn't easy though -- it involved a LOT of backing up and running, and even a bout of winching.  Finally we parked the truck and started hiking.  It took 7 hours 39 minutes round trip for the climbing part.  Afterwards even Frances was too tired to talk.

Check out this ice -- not even a crack!  It was about 4 inches thick, the water was less than a foot deep, so no danger.  Lots of beavers live in this river, there is a damn upstream of this about 50 yards.

Steep sugar snow kept sliding us down the hill.

No more snowshoes.  There are enough rocks to walk on.
Here we cached our snowshoes and poles - around 11,900'
Getting higher - around 12,500'

Franny shows us how to properly knaw a beef jerky strip.
 Eric takes a stab at it . . .
and I can do it too!

Pretty ridge.
You know you've passed the top when you start going downhill.  So we stopped for a picture.
We glissaded about 1000 feet on the way down.
